Rio 2016 Olympics: Barcelona Star Neymar Hits Winning Penalty To Hand Brazil Gold Against Germany

Newmar,  Barcelona star, scored the winning penalty in a dramatic shootout to hand Brazil gold in Rio’s popular Maracana stadium against Germany.

The 24-year-old gave Brazil the lead in the first-half with a spectacular free-kick but Germany replied after the break through Max Meyer.

The fixture was a re-run of Germany’s infamous 7-1 victory over Brazil in the World Cup in 2014 and much of the build-up had been dominated by talk of revenge.

Brazil dominated in normal time and looked the most likely to find the winning goal but found themselves up again a resolute Germany defence with the game finishing 1-1 in normal time.

The Brazilian-dominated crowd was nervous going into a shooutout and the first eight penalties were scored before Germany’s Nils Petersen saw his effort saved.

That save set-up the perfect finale for Neymar who stepped forward to smash his effort into the far right hand corner to claim gold for his country.
