A 30 year old woman identified as Peace Chukwuemeka has been arrested by Akwa Ibom State police command for stealing a four weeks old baby from her mother.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr Murtala Mani who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Cordelia Nwawe, stated that the suspect lived in the same compound with the baby's mother at Mbak Itam in ITU Local Government Area.
He also said the suspected woman had been married for 10 years without giving birth to a child, left Lagos for Uyo, stayed in a compound in Mbak Itam with intention to steal a baby from her neighbour.
"The Family Unit of the compound, through intelligence report was able rescue the baby", Mani said.
The suspect who confessed to the crime she she had been married for ten years without giving birth and has been desperate to have a child of her own. She claimed she stole the baby while the mother was sleeping. According to her confession, she said her mother refused to collect the baby when she took the baby to the village.
She was arrested as soon as she got back to Akwa Ibom with the baby.
