Gunmen Kills Police Inspector In Anambra

Two gunmen operating on a motorcycle yesterday killed a police inspector in ogidi, near Onitsha, Anambra State


 The Divisional Police Officer(DPO), Mr Hassan Musa confirmed the incident. According to Musa, the armed men snatched the Ak47 rifle the deceased was carrying. He said the unfortunate incident occurred about 2.45pm at a police checkpoint near Ugwunwasike roundabout in Ogidi, where a police team was conducting 'stop and search'.
An eyewitness who doesn't want his name to be mentioned said the gunmen took the policeman unaware as they road straight and shot him at a close range while he was trying to stop the vehicle for a search.
He also claimed other policemen who were with the deceased took cover on hearing the gunshot while the armed men escaped from the scene.
According to source, the incident was said to have happened within some minutes. People in the vicinity including motorists and commuters abandoned their vehicles and scampered for safety.
The DPO said the police has started investigation, adding that the remains of the inspector has been deposited at the mortuary.
